So what does this have to do with homes?

The month of May has come and gone. Over the past week there have been so many graduation celebrations. Times have changed so much from when I was a child. I can remember it like it wasn’t so long ago, but it was. I will turn 43 this August. I can remember a time when I wasn’t even sure I would live

006all kidthis long. I sure am glad that I did. Often when we are young we live strictly in the moment. We are ready for whatever life brings and ready to travel down any road. I made so many mistakes as a young man. There are so many choices that we make that change our lives forever. When I was making those decisions I never gave it a second thought. At times I felt so alone. I felt like no one could ever understand me like my friends. I was never really close with my family.

As I have gotten older so many of those things have changed. I still have some very close friends. We can go for months or even years without talking and yet we pick right back up where we left off. In the last few years I have spent much more time talking with my family. Tonight I was watching the Rock and Roll hall of fame induction ceremony. They were honoring Linda Ronstadt. Listening to the artist perform her songs brought back a flood of memories. I can remember sitting in my sister Marian’s room listening to her Simple dreams album, and her playing Blue Bayou over and over. Then I started to remember when my dad used to play Marty Robbins on his old reel to reel. Lets not forget mom listening to Carole King Tapestry album when we lived in that apartment off of Barrington. Then there is my brother Mack. I have him to thank for my obsession with El Camino’s. I was only five or six but I can remember so well sitting in his car in the driveway at the house on Sunway while he was blasting Boston on the eight track player. I thought he was just the coolest. It is funny how music can flood you with memories. I have spent a lot of time recently getting to know my family all over again. We were really not so different. We were all going through the same things we just didn’t know it.

001MHSo what does this have to do with homes? It really has everything to do with homes. Sometimes this
job is hard. I can tell you one thing for sure. It isn’t a way to make easy money. We often deal with deadlines that are close to impossible and people that are unreasonable. So now I think back to all those memories that have been flooding me with emotion as I write this. They all happened at my home. When I feel like things aren’t going well or I am having a bad day. I keep in mind that I am helping people to create their own memories. I am so grateful to those of you that have given me the opportunity to help you with your home. It gives me great pride that I helped people like Artie and Veronica buy their 1st home and I got to see them get married. Also clients like David and Melissa are expecting their 1st child. In a way I will be a part of those memories. It won’t be a memory of me but something that I helped to create and that is enough for me.

So to all you that have given me the honor to serve you I say thanks!! It really means more to me than just a commission check. I hope that somewhere in there when you fondly look back at parts of your life in your home that you have a spot for Big Mike!!
